    On 25th January 1972, 9th Dhi Al-Hijja 1391 (Arafa Day) His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi became the ruler of Sharjah. His Highness is the 18th Ruler of the Emirate of Sharjah in a chain of Al Qasimi Rulers since 1600 AD. He has been at the forefront of the emirate’s cultural, economic and social development and also played a significant role in promoting cultural interaction and dialogue among nations at local, regional and international levels. He is also an established historian and has published several theatrical and literary works.

    Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence

    His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama has been appointed as Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence following the Cabinet reshuffle in October 2017. His responsibilities include enhancing the government performance by investing in the latest technologies and tools of artificial intelligence and applying them in various sectors.

    His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama is currently the Managing Director of the World Government Summit. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Dubai Future Foundation and Deputy Managing Director of the Foundation. In November 2017, the UAE government announced selecting HE. Omar Al Olama as a member of the Future of Digital Economy and Society Council at the World Economic Forum.

    During his work in the Future Department at the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs and the Future, His Excellency participated in developing the UAE Centennial 2071 strategy that aims to position the UAE as the best country in the world. He also participated in developing the UAE 4th Industrial Revolution Strategy that aims to promote the UAE’s status as a global hub for the 4th Industrial Revolution and develop a national economy based on knowledge, innovation and future technologies. Prior to his appointment, His Excellency worked on developing the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy, making it the first such strategy of its kind globally. His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Olama worked in several sectors including the banking sector, telecommunications, private enterprises and government. H.E. also worked on developing and executing strategies, risk analysis, change management and scenario planning.     Nadia Murad

    Nadia Murad is a 24 years old yazidi activist and winner of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. Nadia advocates on behalf of her community and survivors of genocide. Nadia’s peaceful life was savagely interrupted in 2014 when ISIS attacked her homeland in Sinjar with the intention of ethnically cleansing Iraq of all Yazidis. She was among the thousands of Yazidi women who were abducted and enslaved by the self-proclaimed Islamic State (ISIS). Over 1300 Yazidi women remain in captivity. The ISIS genocide that began on August 3, 2014, now threatens the future of the Yazidi people in Iraq. Nadia is the founder and president of Nadia’s Initiative, a foundation supporting women and minorities through the redevelopment and stabilization of communities in crisis. Presently, Nadia and her team are focused on the Sinjar region of Iraq through the foundation’s newly created Sinjar Action Fund.

In 2017, he was appointed humanitarian envoy of The Big Heart Foundation and was recently appointed Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports (IWAS) World Games – Sharjah 2019.     On 27 September 2016, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Filippo Grandi, announced the appointment of Ambassador Mohamed Abdi Affey as his Special Envoy on the Somali Refugee Situation. He noted that the path towards stability and prosperity in Somalia must include solutions for Somalis in exile through the region, and said that the Special Envoy would assist UNHCR to maximize efforts in the search for solutions for Somali refugees and asylum seekers at national and regional levels. Ambassador Affey brings with him extensive regional experience, having most recently served as the Special Envoy to Somalia for the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD). Previously he held senior positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, serving as Kenya’s Deputy Minister and later as Kenya’s Ambassador to Somalia. From March 2008 to February 2013, as a Member of Parliament in the Kenya National Assembly, Ambassador Affey moved several assembly resolutions supporting the stabilization of Somalia by the African Union at the African, Caribbean, Pacific/European Union (ACP/EU) joint parliamentary assembly. In 2007 Ambassador Affey was awarded the Moran of Burning Spear (MBS) by the president of the Republic of Kenya, His Excellency Mwai Kibaki. Born in 1968 in Kenya, Ambassador Affey graduated from the University of Nairobi in 2010 with a master’s degree in International Relations and a major in International Conflict Management.

In February 2010, Reem was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah for Capability Development (previously known as Sharjah Tatweer Forum). Sharjah for Capability Development is a non-profit organisation whose Honorary Chairperson is His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah. As a think tank, the organization works on empowering youth, developing and promoting entrepreneurship, supporting viable projects for Sharjah and fostering community outreach initiatives.

    Reem served as the Director of Sharjah Children’s Centres (SCC) overseeing development of children with talent and a desire to realise their potential. SCC serves children throughout Sharjah with over fourteen centres of innovation and talent in the emirate. She is also a board member of the Sharjah Girl Guides. In 2016, she was appointed as a founding board member of Rubu Qarn (RQ), a foundation that was established for the purpose of creating UAE future leaders and innovators. RQ aims at nurturing a national identity - a culture rich in Arabic and Islamic values and global humanitarian kinship. She was also appointed as a board member of the UAE Girl Guides Association – Sharjah chapter, the same year. Reem, who holds a bachelors’ degree in Interior Design from American University of Sharjah, is passionate about philanthropic work and chairs the Pink Caravan Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign. The Pink Caravan is a pan UAE equestrian ride accompanied by extensive mobile medical teams to perform free medical examinations during the ten-day campaign in rural and urban areas around the country. The Pink Caravan is recognised as one of the most successful breast cancer awareness campaigns globally and has successfully provided free screenings to thousands of people since its initiation.

Launched in January 2016, under the chairmanship of HE Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Sheraa has become the foundation of Sharjah’s startup ecosystem. Having helped conceive the vision for Sheraa, Najla has been involved from inception: forming a prominent advisory board, building a high-performing team, and structuring partnerships with key corporates and government entities in the ecosystem to support startups.

    Today, Sheraa has a loyal community of over six thousand entrepreneurs and ecosystem players, and offers a full-stack program ranging from ideation and incubation through to acceleration and growth. To date, 30 startups have graduated from Sheraa’s accelerator program. Having raised over $12m in seed investment, these startups continue to generate over $15m in recurring sales. The first Sheraa Hub was inaugurated at the American University of Sharjah (AUS), and the second hub at the University of Sharjah (UOS) was inaugurated in September 2018.     Ameera Mohamed Al Haranki Al Marzooqi

    Ameera Mohamed Al Haranki Al Marzooqi is an Emirati environmental enthusiast. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Cybersecurity. Ameera’s passion for the environment had led her to Antarctica twice on two environmental expeditions with the explorer Robert Swan to raise awareness on climate change. Her first trip was in March 2015, where a team of 80 participants from around the world ventured on a vessel ship into the harshest and coldest environment on earth. They explored the Antarctic peninsula and studied the history of Antarctica, its wildlife and ecosystem. Ameera’s second trip was in December 2016, where she headed to Union Glacier (the heart of Antarctica), to test out renewable energy equipment from well-known companies such as SHELL, NASA and SAMSUNG, under harsh environmental conditions, which was a success. She explains that both journeys weren’t easy, but her strong will and dedication for a positive impact on the environment has given her the courage to make it through. She aspires to become an environmentalist and inspire the youth to delve into this field. Ameera has plans in the future for more expeditions and is eager to start her own sustainable business.

    Gokhan Dikmener works as a Technical Specialist for UNDP Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD), generating ideas and guiding the Center in changing markets to integrate people and reduce poverty. He is an economist by training with a specialization on international development and finance. He has international advisory, policy formulation and research experience on private sector engagement in development. His expertise and research interests include areas such as inclusive market development, impact investing, skills development and social entrepreneurship. Prior to UNDP, Gokhan Dikmener worked as an economist/trade specialist at the Turkish Ministry of Economy (formerly the Office of the Prime Ministry, Undersecretariat for Foreign Trade) between 2001 and 2010 where he also held technical and advisory positions. He holds a Master of Arts in International Relations from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS).

    Houssam has more than 20 years of experience in partnership building, stakeholder relationship management and business development in both the not-for-profit and governmental sectors. Specialized in advocacy and fundraising campaigns for refugees, stakeholder engagement, strategic planning, and donor management, Houssam launched new business development and fundraising programs, in international and local institutions such as Greenpeace, Abu Dhabi Environment Agency, and UNHCR. Since 2011, Houssam has been leading private sector partnerships for UNHCR in the MENA region. This includes overlooking the development of UNHCR’s Islamic Philanthropy strategy, largely realized through UNHCR’s global Zakat Initiative, and partnerships with Islamic financial institutions, in addition to family foundations in the region.

    Her Excellency Sarah bint Yousif Al Amiri has been appointed as Minister of State for Advanced Sciences during the Cabinet reshuffle of October 2017. Her responsibilities include enhancing the contributions of advanced sciences to the development of UAE and its economy. Her Excellency is the Chairperson of the UAE Council of Scientists, she also holds the position of Emirates Mars Mission Deputy Project Manager at the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre. Al Amiri started her career in sciences when she worked as Programs Engineer on Dubai Sat-1 and Dubai Sat-2. Her Excellency holds a Bachelor's and a Master’s degree in Computer Engineering from the American University of Sharjah.

    شغلت معالي حصة بنت عيس ى بو حميد منصب مساعد المدير العام للخدمات الحكومية في وزارة شؤون مجلس الوزراء والمستقبل وأشرفت على تطوير الخدمات الحكومية في حكومة دولة الإمارات من خلال برنامج الإمارات للخدمة الحكومية المتميزة الذي يهدف إلى رفع كفاءة الخدمات الحكومية وأشرفت بوحميد على إطلاق مشروع مصنع الخدمات الحكومية الذي يركز على تدريب الجهات الحكومية على آليات تصميم الخدمات ومشروع قياس رضا المتعاملين عن الخدمات الحكومية .كما تولت بو حميد منصب المنسق العام لبرنامج الشيخ خليفة للتميز الحكومي ومنصب المدير التنفيذي لقطاع التميز ومنصب المدير التنفيذي لقطاع الدعم المؤسس ي ومساعد المدير العام لقطاع الخدمات الحكومية، والمشرف على برنامج قيادات حكومة الإمارات لتطوير قيادات الصف الأول والثاني في الحكومة حصة بوحميد من مواليد العام 1980 ، وهي حاصلة على شهادة الماجستير مع مرتبة الشرف في إدارة الأعمال من الجامعة الأميركية في الشارقة، وشهادة البكالوريوس بامتياز مع مرتبة الشرف الأولى في تخصص الإدارة من جامعة زايد، وشهادة الدبلوم العالي في الإدارة العامة من جامعة ليكوان يو في سنغافورة وهي خريجة برنامج الشيخ محمد بن راشد لإعداد القادة وحاصلة على جائزة الشيخ راشد للتفوق العلمي مرتين. كما حصلت على جائزة اللجنة الأولمبية الوطنية لدول الخليج العربية عن فئة الشباب المبدعين المتميزين عام 2013 ، وجائزة الموظف الحكومي المتميز الجديد عام 2003

    Youth Coordinator, SOS Children’s Villages Palestine

    Zuhair Zboun has been working as a Youth Coordinator at SOS Children’s Villages in Palestine since 2006. Zuhair graduated from Alquds Open University with a major in social work - social and family development. He is a strong advocate of supporting vulnerable youth and believes that by working with them to help them reach their full potential, they can successfully manage the transition to independent adulthood and make positive contributions to their communities. Prior to his role as Youth Coordinator, Zuhair held the positions of Youth Care Coworker and Activity Coordinator at SOS Children’s Villages in Palestine and has been with the organization for more 18 years. One of Zuhair’s most promising projects is the Youth Advisory Council, an initiative which aims to involve youth in the direct care of SOS in the decision-making process, at a local level, and engage with them on issues related to their future. Zuhair has 23 years of experience in social work and youth development.
